Thailand Tsunami Aftermath
Took a quick trip to Thailand (10 days) this October and was interesting to see how much things had changed. I was there pre Tsunami and to be honest more of the changes were down to the massive growth in tourism over the past six years – but the Tsunami had definitely taken its toll too.
Koh phi phi in my opinion has had way too much development and the annihilation of those giant waves and swell which washed away all the wooden beach huts and bars has given developers a chance to get in quick and slap concrete up everywhere.
I can understand the need for security with new property but the concrete jungle it’s turning into is not very nice, fond memories of ramshackle huts has given way to three story hotels and a town center with starbuck esque coffee shops and bars.
